Annual Memorial Run Brings Black Dogs Together for a Summer Evening to Remember

On a warm summer evening on Thursday 23 July, a large gathering of Black Dogs came together at BARC for the club’s much-loved annual Memorial Run. The event provides an opportunity to remember friends and fellow club members who are no longer with us, while enjoying good company and one of the club’s favourite routes.

This year, many runners enjoyed tackling the scenic Bath Hills trail, sharing stories and conversation along the way. The route holds special significance in the club’s history, as it was where BBDRC founding members Jim Jervis, Chris Hand, Peter Morrow and Roger Mawer first ran together in 1981, a year before the club was officially formed.

The social side of the evening was as important as the running itself. Runners, walkers and friends gathered at the Earsham Queen’s Head for a toast before making their way back to BARC, creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that captured the spirit of the club.

The annual Memorial Run remains a highlight of the Black Dog calendar, combining a picturesque summer route with the chance to connect with old and new friends. It was fantastic to see so many members and supporters come together to enjoy an evening of running, remembrance and great company.
